Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Children & Young People's Services Committee

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown (DLR) Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) are proud to announce the launch of our second 3-year, evidence informed, Children and Young People’s Plan September 2024-September 2027. We had a full house in Airfield Estate to celebrate the launch, which was a collaborative focal point for diverse services to join and to deliver in the best interests of children and young people to thrive whilst living in DLR.

.

The Children and Young People’s Plan provides an in-depth description and analysis of the service strengths and identified priority needs of children and young people in DLR and how we will achieve this though interagency collaboration. You can find a full copy of DLR CYPSC Children and Young People’s Plan September 2024-September 2027 HERE and a graphic Summary HERE.

The day was opened by Michelle Mc Nicholas, Area Manager, Tusla and further presentations offered an insight into what children and young people themselves think about what it’s like to live in their county, what is working well for children and young people and what needs attention or action.

We also had a presentation from Adele O’ Neill, Research and Community Networking Specialist on our Local Area Child Poverty Action Plan under the Department of Children, Disability and Equality. This is 1 of 4 projects across Ireland. The Family: Adult and Child Enhanced Services (F:ACES) pilot is a cross-county project between DLR/Wicklow CYPSC and DLR/Wicklow Local Community Development Committee (LCDC). A great opportunity to share with services the Human Learning Systems approach, which brings together community voices, public services, and local data to identify the specific drivers of child poverty in our area-and co-design meaningful, sustainable responses.

The day also provided the opportunity for networking between people from a variety of organisations who attended the launch including; Tusla, CYPSC National Office, Women’s Aid, DLR County Council, Family Support Services, Barnardos, Southside Partnership, Le Cheile, UCD, HSE, Crosscare, Comhaire na nÓg, Childline, DLR Drugs and Alcohol Task Force, Southside Travellers Action Group, Young Social Innovators, DLR Libraries, DLR Changing Lives, Women 4 Women, Child Poverty and Wellbeing Office and the Parenting Support Policy Unit (Department of Children, Disability and Equality).

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown CYPSC was established in 2017. We were delighted to launch our first county Children and Young People's Plan on the 21st September 2020! See here for a short summary of the 2020-2022 plan and see here for the more detailed 180 page plan.

This CYPSC plan was approved by the National CYPSC Office and DCYA Review Panel in early 2020 and due to be launched in May 2020 but due to COVID-19 was postponed until September 2020.

Since restrictions prohibit the celebration we had planned with stakeholders and young people, we had with over 70 participants including service leaders, young people via video and a speaker panel with national Tulsa and DCYA representatives.
